My New Ride new
#7517 - 03/07/06 09:46 PM (67.166.150.131)

Greetings folks.
I got my first good ride in since I got my bike back from the factory today. It had been raining yesterday and there were puddles I went through on the bike trail. I am glad I have fenders on my bike because it makes a world of difference when you ride through puddles. I also got the sense for the more-relaxed geometry I have on this bike versus my previous one. I like it. One thing I noticed when I was pumping out of the saddle is that the bike tracked more easily for me. I noticed in riding no-hands that I did not have to balance as carefully as I did on my previous ride.

Ride comfort was great. I have a Brooks B-17 saddle and considering I had not ridden for months it felt really good to me. I rode just under 15 miles total. I just rode a decent pace without pushing hard. I will post more ride impressions as I regain my former fitness level.

I went to the NAHBS show this past Sunday. I met Craig Calfee and enjoyed talking with him.

Insightdriver-

Have you ridden both the Tetra and Dragonfly? If so, were you able to detect much of a difference? I'm looking to buy a custom Calfee, but the Dragonfly (custom) is $1600 more than a similar Tetra. Plus, I've heard that Craig said Dragonflys are the most difficult to repair, while Tetras are the easiest.

Considering you just went through this process, I thought you'd be a good source of information. And, while I'm at it, any thoughts on Parlee?

I have a Luna and a Fly. I'd say that if money is any object at all you are ahead of the game to get the Tetra and better parts. Craig is very proud of the fact that all his bikes ride and handle the same. The price differences are based on materials (boron/carbon is big $); labor time (Tetra is handwrapped); and weight. Otherwise they ride the same. If money is unlimited go with the latest and greatest. They were the number one bike under custom frames in Velo again.

Anyone who commented on Parlee has liked theirs. They would have to go a long way to have the service that Calfee offers. You can give Craig a call and discuss you concerns and needs. He will give you a very honest appaisal and answer. The first time with the choice of Luna/Tetra and my situation then he said Luna. I find last EST is usually a good time to reach him.

Have fun.

P.S. Hey Insight...how about an update?

It has been raining a lot and I have a medical problem that has prevented me from getting out on rides as much as I would want to. First sunny day I'll get my ride out for pics to post. Cheers all.

Well I ran mine into a parking garage and he fixed it just fine...point is it costs more to repair more than any other concern.
