Even less important new
#7598 - 04/05/06 04:29 AM (71.131.81.180)

When I got the Moser, I replaced the tires and rim strip. I saw the caulk then but never really thought about it. Anyhow, this thread is about rim strips.

I bought Velox cloth rim tape. I've ALWAYS bought Velox except once when I decided to try some plastic tape. What a joke that stuff was. Never again. The plastic was awkward to install, and seemed to cut my tubes. They also seemed to migrate and expose the nipple holes in the rim causing an aneurism (for lack of a better term) in the tube and an eventual flat. Anybody have similar experiences with plastic rim tape?

Yes. Plastic can fail in a matter of months. I always use Velox, even on light wheelsets. I still change it out when I repack the bearings or replace sealed bearings.

yup yup yup. I remember my first Solvang Century, man, those plastic strips really caused me a lot of flat on that ride. The edges of the holes were sharp like the holes on a 3 hole puncher and it ate up the strip and into the tube. But of course, I didn't know that the strip wasn't doing its job 'itl I got home.
