new Calfee buildup
#77 - 12/20/03 10:24 PM (66.229.51.111)

I recently bought a new (actually slightly used) Tetra Pro frameset- I think it's going to be a great bike.

I was wondering if there are any special tips or cautions to pay attention to when I build it up. In particular, are there any recommended torque specs for the seat binder and front derailleur? I've never had an all carbon frame before, so I thought it would be good to ask. Anything you think might be helpful is appreciated.

Thanks! Happy Holidays - Thomas

Thomas:

When you install your front dérailleur, make sure you use the carbon sleeve that should have come with your bike. If you don't have one, give Calfee a call, those things are necessary!

If you are installing a triple crankset, check for inner chainring clearance before you tighten down your crank bolt.

Otherwise, use the appropriate torque specs for the size bolt that your tightening.

Congrats on your Calfee. I also just purchased a used frame last month. Love it already even though I've only been able to put 100 miles on it so far due to poor weather and holiday commitments.

Regarding the build up - I would recommend using anti-seize on the bottom bracket and rear derailleur, as they are titanium. Also, Park Tool's website lists recommended torque values for most bolts. A beam torque wrench only runs $20 at Sears and offers peace of mind of doing it right.
