I want to put a chain keeper (like the Third Eye, or Dog Fang) on my Tetra Pro, but will any of them fit?
It looks like the spot where it would be installed on the seat tube is tapered along with the end of a gusset. Has anyone successfully installed one?

I'd call or drop Craig a note. They are really nice at helping out things like that.

You won't be able to fit one without modifying the gusseted portion of the bottom bracket.
Are you having problems with the chain or shifting? My wife's Calfee has not had any problems of that nature since I very carefully set up her shifter/d?railleurs.

It doesn't do it often, but when it does it's usually at a very inconvenient time. FD is set up and functioning properly. I just thought I'd add a little extra insurance.

I agree. I have them on my other bikes, but could not figure out how to make it work on my Tetra.

Craig emailed me back. He said he's seen them on Calfees but doesn't know which model or how they were fitted. He also suggested I adjust me FD.
The FD is setup correctly. Maybe the problem is I use a connex link that is slightly thicker than the rest of the chain. So to keep it from rubbing the FD is set too loose.
I'll mess with it and see that happens.

Doug, I'm using a 'jump stop' - largerst size with great success on my Tetra(and another on my mountain bike). Here is the link:

Great thing is that its cheap and uses a metal chain stop and a hard rubber clamp around the seatstay.
Cheers, Rob

How do you install it without hitting the BB gussets?

No worries - it fits just above the gussets, and I am using a compact crank. Let me know if you need a pic.
Cheers!

Pics would be helpful. The area just above my gussets is tapered. Doesn't that cause a problem?

The gusset wasn't an issue - I just sent the photos to the photo gallery portion of this website. Hopefully they will be up sometime soon.

Just saw the pics. I ordered one today to try. The guy who makes them is pretty cool. He will just send one out and if you like it and it fits, send him $10. Otherwise send it back.

I installed mine today. It had to be installed just slightly on the gusseted area in order to miss the derailleur (10spd Shimano), but I put electrical tape under it to give the strap more grip and it seems to grip well enough.

What size did you use? I just tried the 1-3/8" and it seemed like it was too big. I guess I could put a adapter under it like the FD bandclamp has. But I think the 1-1/4 would fit better.

I used the 35mm (1 3/8") band and it fit like a glove on my Tetra Pro. Maybe try moving it a little further towards the gusset, into the tapering section of the frame? Or perhaps build it up with a layer of bar tape? If not - I'd sent the chap that sell these and email - I'd bet he would send you a new band for gratis or a couple of buck at most. Good luck!

I used the 1 3/8" also. My frame is a 2005 Tetra Pro. It fit fine even before I had to push it slightly over the gussets to get it to clear the deraileur.
