cassette mounting question new
#791 - 01/25/04 05:17 PM (64.12.96.71)

Im mounting a cassette on my new Neutron wheels and was wondering what type of lube (if any) I should use on the threads of the steel lockring. The cassette body is aluminum. Im thinking either grease or Ti Prep. Any opinions out there?
Thanks!
Don

i use the steel lr on record hubs with no lube and have never had any problems-never thought of it either. i'm sure it can't hurt but i've never thought of using lube there and i don't know why. never used it on my mtb either and that takes a lot more abuse re water/snow/cold/mud.

I always use grease on this part. I use the white shimano grease but I'm sure there are many good options. I don't know if this is the "recommended" strategy but I generally only use Ti prep for Ti on Ti and the shimano grease on all the rest.

I ended up using a thin layer of Ti prep. I have been using Ti prep where dissimilar materials are joined lately(especially anything titanium or aluminum)
but for some reason I just wasnt sure what to do in this application (no pun intended).
Thanks for the help!

DonH,
If you had similiar metals interface such as a ti ring to a ti body hub, id suggest ti prep. However with steel to aluminum or a combination of both together, it would make be best to put a little grease on the threads anyway.
