Wipperman chains etc. new
#8453 - 12/07/06 07:08 PM (12.198.24.82)

Does anyone have experience with Wipperman chains on 10spd Shimano? I am trying the 6.1 mm (Shimano specific) steel (not stainless) chain. I installed it last night and I can't get it adjusted so that it will shift smoothly. I haven't ridden it yet.

I may try to lubricate the rear derailleur cable next. I really don't like the Calfee rear cable stay design that doesn't allow for its lubrication without pulling the cable clear out. I usually can't get it back in due to the crimped end, so I need to replace the cable almost every time I lubricate it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

A suggestion for the cable:

Rather than crimping the cable end, trim the end with a cable cutter insuring a non-frayed end in a tight bundle. Then dip the first inch in crazy glue/super glue. The strands of the cable will be bonded in a smooth bundle which allows removal and re-installation as easily as a new cable. In the old days silver solder was used but the crazy glue is faster (less than 20 seconds) and just as functional as solder for the cable.

Crazy glue/super glue: Most brands claim metal adherence:

As an example:

"Super Glue - Permabond All Purpose Superglue

Bonds plastic, metal, ceramic, rubber, glass, and wood
All purpose superglue; Industrial grade adhesive
Cyanoacrylate adhesive
Temperature range: -60 to 82 C (-80 to 180 F)
Colorless
Set time: 10 sec."

No experience with Wipperman chains yet!
