...more from the NAHBS show. Calfee bamboo fixie with (real) bullhorns and disc brakes and wrapped with expoxy/bamboo fibers at the tube juctions. A very striking bike!
The Bamboo bikes are very good looking in the flesh.
A guy came to the show riding a Bamboo fixie with wood rims. Note the drive side is opposite of the normal position.

Dave...what is the "story" behind this new frame? Is it something that might go into production? Just how is it made? Did anyone ride it? Anything else you could tell would sure be appreciated. I've never seen anything like it that is for sure!

Any idea of how much it weighs? It may be lighter than traditional frames. Truss work generally is lighter and stronger, which is why it it used in bridges, etc. A big aero drag unfortunately. I assume it is made from carbon fiber. The biggest problem I see it it would be a BITCH to clean! Where do you insert the water bottle? Should be easy to include that in the design.
Nice bike and shows Craig is really thinking outside the box, er, tube!

It's an experimental bike that Craig rides somewhat regularly. It's made of 'ropes' or thick strands of carbon fibers.
Production? I sorta doubt it, though it may be possible, sometime, to have one made. I think it's more of a "Hmmm, I wonder if this would work?" thing with Craig, you know how he is.
As far as being 'aero' or practical, who cares? It's very cool. Like the Bamboo bikes.

There were a ton of fixie and single speed bikes that were ridden to the show. I saw more than a couple who's drives were on the opposite side. I suppose it was because they could. Do it. Be different. The bike culture in the Bay area is very strong and often quite different.

I was unable to make it to the show. What a bummer. Craigs spider bike is stunning. Imagine the conversation that bike would be as you ride it around town!
