As a surprise for my 60th birthday in June I was treated to a visit to the Colnago factory, showroom and museum. This was arranged by my family unknown to me and Mr Colnago granted permission for the visit. I have ridden Colnago frames for the last 25 years and to visit where they are made was unbelievable. The love and attention that is put into the frames comes from the 29 employees pride at working for the man they call a genius, Ernesto Colnago. In the Colnago museum there is a complete steel track bike he made in 1972 I think it was that is lighter than many of the carbon frames of today. I was also told that a special edition "Bepe" Sarroni, all steel replica bike is in the pipeline!! I was so very grateful to everyone at Colnago for allowing me the chance to see the "Holy Grail" of bicycles.
Cinelli's just re-released a lugged steel pista. now colnago. I think it's just a matter of time before other brands start trying to cash in on the classic collector market. A Willier Triestina replica would be welcome.
