New Z3!
#9169 - 09/16/07 11:28 PM (72.205.29.133)

Thought I'd post to add my new Z3 to the collection here. No photos yet; just picked it up a few days ago, but I'm thrilled to be part of the fold. Transferred all my Campy Record and the Eurus wheelset over to this frame.

Not much activity on this forum, eh?

BTW, what were some of the other bikes you were considering? Was the Z1, Z2, and Z4 also up for consideration? Were you seeking the compact design with sloping top tube? Curious to hear!

Hey BlueJays
-

The bike was something I had coveted for awhile. I was also looking at a Serotta Otrott or Nove, but the cost was prohibitive! I had gone for a fitting at a bike shop that was highly recommended for its advanced Serotta fitting abilties, and I knew they carried Parlee too. Just so happened that their Z3 demo bike, which was on sale for almost $750 off, fit me almost perfectly ... so, I just had to buy it. Only ridden about ten demo rides and mostly by little old ladies on their way home from church!

As for sloping, I was not set on going with sloping vs. flat TT, but that was what was on sale and my previous bike was a Specialized S-Works E5 Aqua-Sapone (a la Cipo) model, so it was more of the same in a sense. Still, the Parlee rides much smoother than the S-Works (which is aluminum).

Anyways, loving the bike. I'd like to post a photo, but my digital camera takes photos that are so large that I can't get them to upload to the cycling sites I frequent! I'm not too savvy with that kind of thing, and it seems that these sites all have limits on the size of the photos they'll take.

Wheels on the ground new [Re: wgp]

The good news is that since you're taking the same components with which you're already familiar, any differences you feel will be attributed to the frameset. Did you opt for a similar saddle, stem, and handlebar for this new bike?

Everything on the bike is the same except for a new seatpost (the old one wouldn't fit), which is a Thompson. All aluminum vs. my old carbon seatpost. Anyways, you're right, it allows me to really compare apples-to-apples, since nothing is new except the seatpost.

What a ride on the Z3 - it climbs and descends with aplomb, and the comfort level is far superior to the Specialized.

Finish appearance new [Re: wgp]
#9268 - 10/08/07 03:03 PM (70.111.166.169)

wgp, so which finish does your new bike have? Is it the X-weave (woven) lugs coupled with unidirectional (smooth) tubeset, or yet another arrangement? Some that I've seen have the unidirectional as the WHOLE bike, while others have done the same thing, except in reverse, with the cross-hatch appearance X-weave for the entire frameset including forks. They all look pretty attractive.

Mine is the x-weave (woven) throughout. Since it was stock, I had no real choice, but I do wonder if the unidirectional is lighter.

Doesn't really matter, though, plenty light for my needs.
