I just picked up the stock 56 bamboo frame and Reynolds fork fork advertised a few posts ago. It turned out that the seller was just down the road from me.

Anyway, I will post a few pics tonight when I get her home. I'm soo excited about this new frame I just can't stand it. It's going to kill me to send it off to Craig for the second life warranty inspection.

Man I can't wait to ride it.

Congratulations!

I am very interested in hearing how the ride quality differs from your Luna to the Bamboo. A Bamboo is is at the top of my dream bike wish list and I have ridden a Luna for the past year.

I am very interested in the exact same thing. I spoke with Craig for a little while today about the frame and he mentioned he was interested in my take as well. Once I get her back from Craig and get it built out and take it for a ride, I will definitely write it up.

Here is a pic of it mocked up with my Topos.

Wow, that is truely a work of art! Even after I built it up, I would probably keep it parked in my living room.

If a Bamboo came along that fit me, even if I wasn't in the market for one, I couldn't pass it up. I would have to buy it.

I have a friend that bought a Calfee Bamboo. He doesn't ride his other three bikes anymore. You might have a similar experience with your Luna.

Bike stand in the house. Love it.

Hey Umlungu, what bike shop did you deal with locally, or did you?

I'm in Flower Mound.

I bought this frame used from a guy in Frisco. The frame is about a year old and is in pristine condition.

I use Plano Cycling and Fitness (www.planocycling.com). They are very personable and the guys in the shop are top notch.

Nev, do you participate in any local rides? We should hook up at a local ride. Get a pic of the Calfees together.

When you come out to the SF Bay area (for some riding), I'd recommend you not refer to the city at the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge as "Frisco". You'll be marked as a tourist for sure! If you want to appear local, call it The City. ...as in "I'm heading to The City for dinner."

If you bought the Bamboo frame from a guy in Frisco, Texas then I guess it's ok to say "Frisco" :-)

There must be a lot used Calfee's in the Bay Area. I just bought a used Tetra Pro from a guy in San Francisco.

Thanks Skuke, good to know! LOL!

I did buy it from a guy in Frisco, Tx. Just up the road from me here in Plano, Tx. I would like to come out to "The City" for a ride, though I fear the hills would do me in!

In a wierd related way though, I do work for Cisco, which does derive its name from SF - for the bridge.

FWIW, the riding in The City isn't very good. Too much traffic, tourist, cell-phone-distracted-drivers... However, the areas to the north, south and east bay all have excellent riding. ...although, there are lots of hills in those areas too!

Of course, if you show up in The City on the last Friday of the month, you can participate in Critical Mass; semi-controlled chaos and anarchy with a police escort!

Umlungu,

Just MHO, but I think you outta clamp your bamboo frame by the seat post rather than any of the bamboo tubes. Go buy a cheap "sacrificial" seat post if need be.

Ah great info. I had read about these critical mass events in last months Bicycling magazine. Interesting for sure!

Great point about clamping the bamboo, in fact before I took that shot I hesitated and thought about it. I decided for this pic I would just gently clamp it for the shot. I think once it's built out I will just use the seat tube.

I have the same bike repair stand. I think the jaws on the clamping mechanism are soft rubber and are not suppose to damage the frame if you do not clamp too hard; but I could be wrong. I typically clamp onto the top tube since the bike is just resting on the clamp and doesn't require much pressure to hold the bike in place.

I have been itching to post a pic of my Bamboo Pro here and I think I will go ahead and do so before the holidays make life even crazier this next week. Here it is about 99% complete. The only things missing are the bamboo headset spacers and the matching Brooks bar tape: both of which are in route. I have yet to take it out on a long ride, but the few short rides I have done so far (up and down the street) have been great.

I also had to post a pic of my little Calfee family:

Umlungu,

I am very interested in the ride difference between the Bamboo and your Luna. I have had a Luna and now have a Tetra which rides similar to the Luna. A Calfee Bamboo may be my next bike. I thought of using the Tetra for training rides and the Bamboo for longer club rides and centuries. I have heard that the bamboo is even better than carbon fiber at reducing road vibration.

Bamboo is one SWEET bicycle! Can't wait to see it with the matching tape. Congratulations on an excellent choice.

Umlungu,

I noticed that your Bamboo Calfee has Zero Gravity brakes. Do they really stop better than Campagnolo and Shimano brakes? How expensive are brake pads?

By the way, your Bamboo looks great!

Buy some Koolstop pads. MUCH cheaper than new calipers and your braking power will increase.

...get your butt off the back of the saddle if you're gonna grab a handful of front brake!

I use Koolstops on my Campy brakes. They are cheaper and work better than the stock brakes. I have been curious about Zero Gravity Brakes lately but wondered if I could use Koolstop pads. My brakes are working well so need to change them, but I think there will be another bike in my future and it might have Zero Gravity Brakes.
