Good morning good people,
I recently returned my Specialized Speed Zone Pro (wireless speedo, wired cadence) because I was not getting good mph readings and the cadence was also erratic. I may have had sight-line problems with the speedo function - unit was mounted on aerobars above profile design water jug also located between bars - but after two trips back to the lbs for corrective action it still would not function properly. Are there any "dependable " (don't laugh) wireless units out there ? I may have to go back to wired but before I do I wanted to check in with the forum. Early reports I've heard on the Mavic Wintech lead me to believe that it's not what I'm looking for.
Thanks for your input, Michael

I have a vetta cyclocomputer vr100 which is completely wireless. Cadence/speed/heartrate. Have had it for about 2 years (8000 miles)without significant problems. When it rains or if it is cold (<40 degrees) it will have problems with the cadence and to a lesser degree the speed. Usually when problems arise a battery change is needed. No complaints.

If you're riding Shimano equipment...Shimano makes a great wireless computer with everything on it..except HR. I had good experience with it, until I switched to Campy. Campy only makes a wired computer. Polar 720's are nice, if you don't mind the size of a watch on your bike. Sports Instruments SI-90 is what I use now. Nice unit...it also tracks HR. Tracks distance, speed, time, elapsed time, everything except cadence.
Timex has out a new watch that tracks speed, distance and HR...and, does it via GPS...the only problem is you have to wear this GPS thing strapped to your arm.
Good Luck!

I've run with the Timex Unit for about 2 years or so. I bought one of the first to hit their warehouse. It works great. There is only one problem for a bike is that it does not stop when you do. To get accurate averages etc. you have to turn it on and off at each stop. That isn't a problem in open country but in an urban area...
The Flight Deck comes wireless now as the one person said. I have three of them. They work great. Cadence is done by computer as you program in your gears and it calculates off your speed. I had a wired cadence prior to it and as far as I can tell it has been accurate.
In answer to your question Rebecca nothing. Except you should see me when I run. My radio is strapped on one arm; my GPS on the other; my Nike Watch I can read without glasses on my left wrist; and my Timex on the right. Super Dork and I run in the words of my son like a Neanderthal. At least nobody ever bothers me.

I find that my vetta works fine but sometimes mysterioulsy picks up mileage between rides. I haven't figured out what rf signal in my house is activating it. Sometimes I go 2 weeks without any weird effects and other times the bike is going 20-40 miles without me on a given night .

No problem with Campy...Campy's computer is wired only. I personally don't like the wires all over the bike! I do prefer Campy components over Shimano these days...but, that's a personal preference!

Good, because I just got an Ergo Brain on my new Tetra. I agree, I don't care for the wires either . I am will probably remove the cadence sensor, after 20 years of cycling I know my cadence. So then I will just have one wire for the rest my functions, that's not to bad.

I have 3 wireless.
#1 Flight Deck. This really works nicely. I use it on my tandem and I like knowing what gear I'm in without needing to look way back there. On a road bike this is less useful to me. My biggest complaint is that it chews batteries and runs through 3-4 per year. This does bug me and except for the gear indicator I would replace it. No HM.
#2 Cateye wireless. Simple. Everything I need and they've worked flawlessly on 2 bikes over 6 years. No cadence, HM or gear indicator. I don't need them. Bullet proof.
#3 Ciclo 436. Everything with the cateye but you get a climbing est. Watt meter. I have found this calculated value useful. Is it accurate? I don't know but it's reproducible and helps gauge effort on the climb. Altimeter. I also like that it remembers the last 3 rides and all the totals, calculates percent grade. And all downloadable on the computer. They have one with HM but again, I don't have any use for that.

If your Flight Deck is one of the originals it will eat batteries much faster than the newer ones. The new ones "sleep" much deeper and it saves on the battery. I still have the original on my Calfee after 8,000 miles of the new kind. The others go periodically. The new one you can reset the odometer as well.
