Moots seat post seat clamp slipping new
#9797 - 06/23/08 10:50 PM (66.236.147.253)

It's on this:

The seat moves back, drops down. If you know the post, looks like the body of the post that wraps around the piece that holds the seat rails is closed flush. The bolts feel like they're bottomed out, too.

Do different seats have different rail diameters? Maybe I need a seat with thicker rails? Never had this issue before.

On the Moots post I used to have, the rail clamp had a small gap between the top and bottom pieces when tightened. I would suggest measuring the rails on the saddle, as well as a few others, if you have a caliper or micrometer. If not, fit a couple of different saddles on the Moots post and look for the aforementioned gap. I know, sort of a PITA.

It's not a bad Specialized seat. I like it but...Going to give some shims a try as well.

Moots seat post driving me nuts! new [Re: Nev]
#9809 - 06/29/08 12:35 AM (71.97.94.70)

Uh...for the life of me I can't get this seat back on. This post is impossible.

Any tips for installation with this post? I'm going to try a shim. But I can't even get the seat back on.

Maybe I'm being too gentle with it? I'm afraid of opening (bending it open) too much. Should I worry? Also what do or would YOU use for prying it open?

Don't be afraid of bending the post when prying it open to insert the seat rails. There is a tool used in the automotive trade, I think to pry interior door covers off, that is like a pair of pliers with 'paddles' on the ends instead of jaws and spreads open when squeezing the handles together instead of closing. I believe that this is a fairly common tool you can find at a good auto parts store and is a dandy item to have for using on a Moots seatpost and others like it.
