Any other C 40 owners out there? I've got a 00F 60 cm beauty.

Hello, I have a 58cm C40 Gold made for 2000 in limited edition of 400 bikes. WONDERFUL bike, but its almost too pretty to ride and thus gets used very little. Which then leads my wife to suggest that I have too many bikes and perhaps I should sell. Funny thing is, I sold it about a year ago and then missed it so much..had to buy it back. Don't know if that was wise as the repurchase caused the homefront to push for the sale of some more bikes.
Anyway, the C40 really is a great bike and I enjoy the 10 speed Campy Record. Although I have had and have several other high end bikes, the C40 remains one of my favorites. Then again, I also enjoy my Calfee and Kestrel... guess I am just a carbon kinda guy.

My other ride is a Legend Ti. Very different! How would you compare your Kestral and Calfee to the Colnago?

Hello again. Had a lot of bikes in the past. One of my favorites was the Kestrel 4000. It was stable, gave a great ride and had a stiff BB, BUT, it was heavy. The Kestrel 200EMS was lighter, but not as nice a ride.
My last Calfee Tetra Pro was a little large so I can't really compare favorably...I'll let you know more when my current frame is built up...waiting on the Campy Record components which should be here next week.
I have also owned 3 Merlin Extralights, including one with the integrated headset, as well as a custon MTW titanium. Never really liked the ride....but they were still fine bikes. Other frames were steel, which I felt were a little too stiff.
Overall, as you can guess, I like the C40 the best. My only dilema has been riding it based on its value...I just don't need anything that expensive (or so my wife tells me). But, the C40 has been the best bike at everything. Stable at 50mph, great ride and handling, great looks, comfortable, reliable (with Campy Record) and has never let me down. I am really looking forward to trying the new Calfee to see how it compares.
Difficult to compare directly as all the carbon frames have been fine bikes. Have always wanted to try the Kestrel 300EMS, which they stopped making as it was too expensive. I bet it rides nicer then the 200EMS and would ove to own one if the price was right. I don't care for the new Talon, although my brother likes his.
At this time, I would rate the Colnago C40 first, followed closely by the Calfee Tetra Pro and then the Kestrel 200EMS (order could change with the new Calfee or if I got a 300EMS...never know). Besides, its still a tough call and I am sure everyone would have a different favorite..just glad I get the chance to own some many nice bikes.

Hi, I am on my 3rd C-40 and am awaiting my new C-50. I am selling My Colnago Dream B-stay to make room for it. I love the C-40, and can't imagine anything riding better, but being a Colnago snob, had to have the latest. I have been riding the C-40 with the Mavic Ksyriums and find them to be a great match. Racing, or just riding hard. But what I like best about the C-40 is how everyone drools over it at the bakery after the ride!

All the best,

C-dog, where did you buy your C-50 and how long have you been waiting for it? Please post a review for us once you get this bike. I'm really curious to know what people think of their C-50s. So happens the Colnago geometry would fit me quite well and I'm starting to get these crazy ideas in my head.

Kahuna, I have a little cycling buisness that allows me to get Colnagos at a pretty reduced price so I get it through a distributor. I should have it before the end of March, maybe sooner. The geomatry works perfect for me, but I must admit that the wow factor of Colnago is also a determaning factor. I will post a review after I get it and stretch its legs a little.

I am now in the process of comparing the differences between my 2003 Calfee Tera Pro and my 2004 Litespeed Vortex. Guys like you, with your high end bikes, made it easier for me to persuade my wife to let me get another expensive bike. I just tell her that, by let me have two bikes, she was getting off easy because all the people on these forums have even more.

Hello Max, The bike should be ready this weekend. But, I have been on the road for business almost every weekday and will probably be that way for a few more weeks. I will try to get a ride in as soon as possible and see how the right size compares with my C40....Of course, my wife is already gearing up for the " too many" bikes discussion. I'll try to update my comparison shortly.

HI, I am a new member and in the process of aquiring a C40 Colhago. My first. It is a used bike with low mileage. It was acquired by the current owner from Italy in the fall of 2000. It is equipped with Campy Record 10. The Asking price is $3000 US. Is this too much? What else should I be looking for to ensure I make a good buy?

Hello Marcel, As you may have seen from the above links, I also own a C40. Mine is the Gold edition of which 400 where built in 2000. The price you indicated seems reasonable....but, that is not to say that there are not cheaper ones to be found. Price really depends on the components and you can't go wrong with Campy Record 10 speed. BUT, keep in mind that another large part of the price should be the wheels. Some people take off the nice stuff and put on lesser wheels figuring that the buyer will fixate on the frame and Campy components. At the $3000 level, I would expect high end wheels in very good condition. Of course, I have also listed my bike and won't sell for less then $3800 due to its rarity and the components/wheels. So..the $3000 is not too much if the bike is in excellent condition with all the right parts.
As an update to others with whom I traded info. My Calfee was finally built and ridden. Great bike, but I still think the Colnago has the edge (call it snooty or whatever, thats just the way it is). As my wife still feels I have too many high end bikes, I sold the Calfee to a very happy buyer. Still have the Colnago listed to keep my wife happy. If it sells..so be it, but if not, it will always be a pleasure to ride...and still have not had a chance to compare it to the Kestrel 300 EMS, although someone was selling a frame on Ebay for an unbelievable $500 and even though it was as a 61cm....too large for me...came close to buying just to give it a try...now there is a SUPER bargain, if the frame fits.
Anyway, Marcel, I hope the purchase works out for you. No matter what anyone says anout Colnago being overpriced etc....It is an excellent ride that you will surely enjoy.

Thanks for the prompt reply Tyrone and for the advice. The wheels are Ambrosio with Vittoria Rubino PRB Kevlar tires 700X23C. Campy carbon seat post, Campy Ti cassette 12X25. I have arranged for a weekend trial as soon as the wheather permits which should be late March around here (Montreal).

Cheers. I will let you know if I buy.
