Is anyone in this forum doing the Markleeville Death ride in July? Those who had done it before, what training ride do you recommend in the bay area (San Jose)?

Not this year :-(

I live in West San Jose and did all my training on the hills on the peninsula. One day when my regular riding buddies where busy, I rode up and down hwy 9 four times. Five round trips is about half the distance and altitude gain of Markleeville. It was FREAKIN' boring doing that ride, but it was a good barometer of my fitness. I actually planned to ride it five times, but a friend joined me at the last minute and slowed my pace considerably. I had another engagement and needed to be home at a certain time.

Climbing to Mt. Hamilton is good because it's not steep but fairly long. The stuff on the pennisula is shorter but if you ride them enough times in one day...

Probably more important (at least to me) is to know that after lunch, when you ride past your car at the start and head towards the last climb, you are just past half way!! or thereabouts. Big time head game! Just know that info so you don't get demoralized.
