My guess would be that the preference for compact frame geometries would grow the younger the age. This being due to what type of road bike look you grew up with. I'm in my early 20's and don't mind the look of a compact frame - the older standard frames look more traditional, but they don't look "sporty" enough for my taste. Some manufacturers have gone too far though, sloping the top tube so much that it begins looking almost like a bmx frame! The other side of my unsupported theory being that the people who grew up dreaming of that standard style frame with the horizontal top tube (when it was most popular) will tend to have an affinity for that type of geometry.
