Headsets & steerer tube length
      07/08/05 11:22 PM (64.165.70.121)

Hi.

I recently purchased a Calfee Dragonfly & built it up using an Alpha Sub Q 3 fork that I had on a Kestrel.

Unfortunately the steerer tube is somewhat short in the Calfee & so my fork doesn't go through the entire stem (it's about 1/4 inch off). (Surprisingly the Kestrel allowed for a spacer).

My bike shop built the bike & said it's on the edge of what he would consider workable.

I use a Ritchey stem and have recently purchased a 3TTT stem because it has a lower stack height.

I'm considering a 'shorter' headset than my Chris King.

The shortest I've found is Rudelli's:

Misura 1"
Code: Cod. 02.01.220
Useful working height: 30,5 mm (ridotto)
Material: Avional
Weight: 98g
Technical notes: Internal self-locking nut, patented “Misura” system, with tapered ringnut, which when tightened inside the cap, reduces the working height and guarantees more secure tightening, also with Magnetic Control System.

Of course I can't find anyone in the US that sells this.

Should I be bothered by the 1/4 issue? I don't weight much & haven't had issues so far, but in the back of my mind is the thought.

Thanks.
