I am relatively new to cycling so please be kind. I had been riding my husband's old steel Trek for a year and I finally decided to buy a bike that fits me (I'm 5'3" and my husband is 5'10").
A small bike shop near my house had a 2002 Calfee Tetra-Tri on consignment. The guy that worked at the bike shop said that it's an amazing deal for $862 (tax included!) and in his opinion the seller had severely underpriced the bike. The guy at the bike store was very nice (I didn't feel like he was trying to take advantage of my naivete).
The bike includes all Dura-Ace components, some fancy wheels with slick tires (?) and speedplay pedals. I ended up buying it because I took it for a short spin and it was so different from the steel bike! So much lighter! I use SPD pedals so the bike shop switched out the pedals for me.
I wanted to ask the experts here if I got a good deal? I have no idea how much a 2002 Calfee Tetra-Tri would usually sell for. I took the bike out for a short ride yesterday and so far I LOVE it.
By the way, is there such thing as an adjustable stem? The bike shop pointed out that there is something near the handlebars (or near the stem) that is adjustable and he said that is also a nice extra feature.
If anyone has any recommendations for beginner's routes in San Diego that would be appreciated too. So far I've only checked out Lake Murray, Lake Miramar and of course Mission Bay/Fiesta Island. Thanks so much!
