Rally close to my house on Saturday. So had to do it. Dragged the wife out with me and we did the 50 miles. I rode it single speed Fixed and found it quite enjoyable. We started at the back and so never got passed once*. (Good for the moral!) Past everyone else and even caught up to the tail end of the 30 milers towards the end. A couple hills were a stuggle...I ended up standing one pedal over the other, but otherwise, nice and smooth. Didn't finish even remotely tired. Riding Fixed I find really teaches you (me) to get "in touch" with the bike, how to let the bike do the work. I'd find a groove and just ride it. If I had ridden my geared bike I know I would've been pushing myself harder the whole time and would've felt it at the end. We pretty much lost the group we started with after 8 or so miles and then steadly, slowly, chased down and past others the rest of the way. Y'all need to getcha a Fixed single speed roady machine. It's nice and pure.
*by three riders, actually, who we had caught anyway at the last pit stop
