Hi,
I just bought my first Eddy Merckx frameset, a NOS 1996 Corsa 0.1 that I built with a matching '96 Record-8 gruppo. I find the commaraderie amoungst Merckx owners second to none.
I've ridden only one steel bike from the early 70's until about 1999 (an old Motobecane that I still have), when I bought my first modern aluminum bike (with index shifting!). After another aluminum frame, and then a full carbon bike, I just couldn't get the ride of steel out of my mind, so I went "back" so to speak. I haven't ridden it outdoors yet (minus 18 degrees this morning), but I can only anticipate the magic ride promised.
My friend in Colorado who turned me onto Merckx bikes is starting a Merckx owner's registry. He's hoping to have a website up later this year, but for now he's collecting names, email addresses, mailing addresses, and bike info if anyone is interested. Very informal, but something that could come in handy someday.
Hope to meet and ride with some of you someday,
Davefromaine
