Funny how that works...I just was invited to go for a trail run with a new friend who is a much better rider and runner than I am. I was convinced by him that it would be easy for me since I am in great shape and pretty fast on the bike. So I gave in, and with a swollen cranium, I ran. Thank god he was running a "mild recovery pace" because after the 6th mile or so, my knees were on fire, my calves were cramping, and I was coughing cobwebs out of my lungs so I couldn't breathe so well...and I still had the one and a half mile downhill section left to get home...oh my poor knees! What is gods good name was I thinking? He did finally tell me that he was surprised I hung on so long and that he truthfully did not run as slow of a pace as he inteded. Gee thanks!!! The past two days I walk like a 80 year old man with a walker, popping Soma's like candy and angry at myself for the self-inflicted abuse.
Lesson learned...I need to train to run, even if I am fast on the bike, which I am not, I just don't have much competition here!!!
