How long has he been on that saddle? I think a newbie riding 43 miles before getting sore is pretty good! Heck, in the spring time, my butt gets sore after a 40 mile ride.

Of course, the above doesn't mean he shouldn't get fitted though. Sorry I can't help with a recommendation, I live in San Jose.
