Lon: Except for the bad knee part, you and I are a lot alike. Here in north eastern Washington, we are at the base of several mountain ranges and withing a few hour drive of four or five more, including the Rockies.

I love riding the hills, and spinning is my salvation when they are in front of me, so I like and use all my gears. That said, my need for 'one more click' at a 30~50% premium is non-existent.

The compact crank MTB rear der/cassette combo works pretty nifty too. I've run it on an earlier Serotta I had, and may do it again on another that I'm negotiating to buy now.
