Howdy Vax...
I'm thinking you have me confused with someone else as I do not have a Sachs, though I would mind owning one at all! Where did you see this orange Sachs anyway, I love Orange and this color sounds very intriguing? If I was in the market for a steelie, I would buy a Spectrum or Serotta. Besides that, I prefer fillet brazed asthetics over lugs any day ! I know, I know lugs are cool, but I love the sleekness of smooth frame joints...something I have always like about my old Klien.
Allan..
Thanks for the kind words...I did not mean to sound so neutral, but somethings just can not be measured in an objectional way. In cycling, there are so many factors that can help or hurt a component when it comes to performance and many of those factors are not very repeatable from one test session to the next. Just take the human factor for example...when I have tried testing my first gen Mavic Cosmic Pro's (my most favorite wheels ever!) against my Heliums, I could never get 2 relatively equal days weather wise, let alone 2 similar days that I felt equally strong to compare the 2 wheels. I ended up riding 4 complete round trips (2 on the Heliums and 2 on the Cosmics) to average out the results all on the same day. The wheels were nearly identical as far as MY times are concerned. The Heliums are vastly lighter, seem to ride smoother and windup far faster than the Cosmics, but the Cosmics feel so responsive, super-solid and very fast and my butt always told me they were faster. Go figure! I see your point of view on the wheel design side of things and I mostly agree. I have never been very good at wheel building, but I enjoy playing around. I do all the minor truing of my wheels and have noticed some wheels seem more soild than others - typically any 3 cross vs radial or even 2 cross designs are more robust.
