You can always hacksaw off some the threaded stud sticking out. Be sure to install a steel nut before cutting. The nut will help to clean up the first thread that gets folded over from the cutting. I would also advise you to clean up the first thread with a file before unthreading the nut.

The downside to this method is if you change cages and need a longer stud...
