Craig and my LBS had a back-and-forth discussion on my bike geometry. Being that I am getting fenders, they were included to determine the headtube angle that would prevent toe overlap. Turns out that angle is such that Craig says he has to hand-wrap that joint. I looked at hand-wrapped joints and think this is an acceptable choice so I'm going with it. My LBS is adamant, and I have to agree, that I should not compromise with a slightly longer headtube because the additional little bit of stretch I'd have would compromise my back. I hate to think of myself as being that fragile but I know from experience that if I lean to far forward I will get severe back pain somewhere around the 40 mile mark or so.
Having a tight cockpit so I am more upright makes a much more comfortable ride for me. Having a stable geometry is fine with me since I will be commuting most of the time with my bike. I got used to the handling of my first Calfee and I liked it, though it took some getting used to. This new bike I'll be getting will have more fork rake to it than I had. This is one of those design and performance dedcisions that I am making on this new build.
My bike order is not yet placed until the final design decisions are agreed upon. I shall find out Monday or Tuesday when my order is placed. The countdown will begin soon. Many bits are already decided on, such as Ultegra drive train and brakes. I get long cage brakes to fit the fenders. I'm getting a Deda Newton bar, King headset, Thomson seatpost, Ritchey Pro Road stem, Mavic Elite wheels, FSA Gossamer Compact crank and Rubino Pro rubber.
I am looking forward to getting my new bike. As far as bits and pieces I am flexible on a lot of things like stem, bar and such because many brands and models work for me.
