Won't shift after a 2 year break
      04/05/07 04:21 AM (4.242.30.211)

I have a 7 year old trek 5000 with shimano 105 shifters built into the breaklevers (slapshifting??). It has been hanging unused in my garage for 2 years and now they won't shift. I can shift up, meaning the shifter will pull cable but it will not shift down. It appear to be the same with the right and left. The shifter feels like it is moving freely but there is no clicking sound/feel that occurs when it suppose releases to the next gear. The bike has an embarassingly few miles on it.

Is this a common problem? Can I free up whatever is stuck with a little wd-40? Is this a job for the shop or am I up for a $200 replacement

Hope you can help
Jeff C
